What should I do if my floor has been impacted by an extreme weather event, storms, flooding, high humidity etc.?

Your first point of contact should be your Building Insurer for those experiencing floor related problems after an extreme weather event.

If you have existing hardwood flooring then sanding is certainly an option. If you have laminate or hybrid flooring then this is unfortunately not an option for you. In some cases, depending on the thickness of veneer you have, some existing engineered flooring may also be lightly sanded.

Depending on the type of flooring material, it can often be repaired. Deep scratches in hardwood will require a heavy sand & stain across the entire floor space. Other manmade flooring types such as laminate or hybrid also have options of repair, however the repair will be noticeable. Please be aware that attempting to find matching-colour floorboards to repair individual planks can be near impossible in most cases.

In the case of solid timber, engineered timber and laminate floor boards an underlay will be required for a floating installation. Hybrid flooring typically comes with underlay pre-attached and adding an additional underlay will cause the floor to feel very hard when walking on it and is not required nor recommended.
